Students who are not yet registered will not be rostered into a class until the registration is complete.
Please reach out to our Registrar should you need to register a new student prior to the start of, or during, the school year.

In the past, we have mailed physical copies to the home of each student via USPS. This year, we will be sending back-to-school information via email.
Families can expect to receive two emails:
- A general welcome back newsletter from your building principal, and
- A separate email that includes your student’s homeroom, class schedule, teaching assignment, and busing information.
Students will not be rostered into a classroom until registration is complete. These families will not receive this information and may also miss other critical updates about the upcoming school year from the District and school.

Monthly menus are available via the District and school websites. Grab and go breakfast is available each day prior to the beginning of school. Each morning, teachers count those wishing to purchase a lunch and provide counts to the kitchen.
Students use debit cards to “purchase” breakfast, hot lunch, and milk. Funds can be added to debit cards using PushCoin.
Free and Reduced Breakfast and Lunches
Applications to apply for free or reduced lunches are available on the District website. Families will need to print out and complete the form and return it to the Administration Office. Families who received an email from PushCoin regarding your student's lunch status do not need to complete the form.

Schedules
Individual student bus will be sent in the August email. As always, please have your child at their stop 10 minutes prior to the listed stop time. If you have questions about bus service, please contact Sue Campbell at SCampbell@district146.org.
Delays
It is commonplace for transportation delays to occur at the beginning of each school year. This is especially true as our transportation contractors continue to face challenges associated with bus/van driver shortages. We appreciate your understanding, patience, and support as we work through these delays.
Bus Bulletin
First Student, our transportation provider, uses Bus Bulletin to alert District 146 parents of bus delays and schedule changes.
Bus Bulletin sends parents instant notifications via text message, email, and/or phone call. There is no cost for parents to sign up and receive notifications. For more information or to sign up for notifications, please visit the Bus Bulletin website.

Illinois State Law requires all students entering Kindergarten and Sixth grade to submit a complete physical examination and all required immunizations. The Illinois Department of Public Health Certificate of Child Health Examination form is located on our district website. Medical forms are also available at any provider’s office where immunizations are administered.
Reflecting State of Illinois requirements, District 146 school board policy reads: A student’s parent/guardian shall present proof that a student received a health examination and the immunizations against, and screenings for, preventable communicable diseases, as required by Illinois Department of Public Health, prior to entry to:
- Kindergarten or First grade (if child did NOT attend Kindergarten)
- Entering Sixth grade; and
- Enrolling in an Illinois School, regardless of the student’s grade (including nursery school, special education or secondary schools, and the students transferring into Illinois from out of state or country.) This includes pre-school students receiving speech itinerant services.
Physical Exam must be dated within one year of entering the grade. For a full list of health forms required please refer to registration guidelines.
Please understand failure to comply with the above requirements by October 15 of the school year will result in your students’ exclusion from school until the required physical exam and immunization records are provided to the school nurse.

The Superintendent is authorized to close the schools in the event of hazardous weather or other emergencies that threaten the safety of students, staff members, or school property.
District 146 may utilize e-Learning Days in lieu of Emergency Days. When an e-Learning Day is implemented, all Early Learning through 8th Grade students will engage in 5 hours of synchronous and asynchronous learning and instruction.
Communication Regarding School Closures: The District will communicate delays, cancellations, and closings to our community and staff in a variety of ways. When school is closed due to weather, the following communications modes are utilized:

- Automated calling & text alert system (when the system identifies a missed call, a voicemail will be left)
- Email blasts
- Social Media (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram)
- Media (radio, television, etc., when possible)
If there is ever a time that you do not receive a phone call or text message, but you think there is a chance of a delay/closure, please check our website or official district social media accounts.

District Communication
The district now utilizes ParentSquare as our automated notification system. ParentSquare allows families to decide how to receive messages from the district and how often.
To ensure you receive email and telephone communication from the district throughout the school year, please make sure that all of your contact information is up-to-date when registering. If at any time you feel you are not receiving school or District emails, please contact Keegan Kociss at KKociss@district146.org.
School Communication
Individual schools and teachers may also communicate with families using email, Schoology, or Seesaw.
Please contact your school office or teacher to determine the manners in which they will communicate throughout the year.
